I grant permission to publish this as appropriate
August 29, 1996 David Oliver Rietz 122 Foxborough Road Goose Creek, SC 29445 US Navy (Retired) Commissioner David Kessler Food and Drug Administration 5600 Fishers Lane Rockville, Maryland 20857 Dear Dr. Kessler: The history of the FDA, Searle, Monsanto, NutraSweet Corporation, and many others concerning the product aspartame should become two significant college courses. The first course should be entitled "Fraud 101" and be dedicated to all those companies who successfully doctored official tests, reports, and other required OFFICIAL documentation in their successful well- monied campaign to bring aspartame (A.K.A. "Equal" and "NutraSweet") to market. The second course should be entitled "Greed 101", and be dedicated to one-time FDA Commissioner Arthur Hull Hayes, Jr., appointed in April of 1981, and all commissioners since including yourself, many members of congress, and every government agency that has had anything o do with keeping this toxic poison classified as something other that what it truly is: a toxic drug unfit for human consumption! In addition, you, sir, deserve special recognition. Aspartame breaks down into very nasty components above 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Yet on the 27 June, 1996, without public fanfare you gave blanket approval that permits this poison to be used in any and all products including heated foodstuffs. Enclosure (1) of this letter is my method of "discovery", that took fifteen years to acquire, no thanks to twenty-one learned doctors, the health system in general, and the U.S. Government, in particular! Enclosure (2) is my generalized case statement, now a permanent fixture on the Internet. In the near future you will see this again, and many more to come. The long-term deleterious effects of this treacherous neurotoxin that you have allowed to remain classified as a non-drug, making all concerned obscenely wealthy, constitutes an epidemic that will soon make you and your kind notorious.
                                                     Most sincerely,

                                                      David Rietz
