The Internet saved my life! 12 December, 2001: The why of www.DORway.com On the 15th of June, 1996, after a month and a half of increasingly desperate 12-16 hour concentrated searches on the Internet trying to determine why I seemed to be dying... I discovered the (then newly posted) FDA's 92 symptoms of aspartame poisoning. I almost DIDN'T read it... because I thought "FDA" stood for Federal DRUG Agency (and I was not aware I was flooding my body with daily/hourly doses of dangerous drugs) and it mentioned "aspartame", a term I had never heard before. However, I had struck out with the last of 21 doctors to misdiagnose and improperly treat me for over 11 years... and my problems seemed to be getting worse (at an accelerating rate) with each passing day. I was at the point where I actually wondered if Dr. Jack Kevorkian had a full dance card. I was so desperate that I was now reading EVERYTHING! Part way into the article I read "Equal" and "Nutrasweet". I was astounded. During my second reading of the symptoms I mentally ticked off around 20% of them as being a part of MY situation. The possible solution? Eliminate all aspartame from the diet for up to two months and see what happens. I did... and got mostly well. She responded, we conversed, and when the university she had her Email account with protested over the growing megabytes of Email that was clogging up their servers... I told her I would host her files and post her articles. Around a year after making my discovery and becoming functional again... Mrs. Martini hosted a meeting in her home town of Duluth, GA (during June of 1997) concerning aspartame and other stuff... like MSG and rBGH. I attended. While there I met Jack Samuels (deathly sensitive to MSG) and Mr. Cohen... who spoke about bovine growth hormone, milk, dairy, and his upcoming book "MILK, the Deadly Poison". We had a preliminary talk about WEB sites and that was that for many months. We kept in contact... and a friendship grew between Mr. Cohen and I... enough so that he sent me a copy of the manuscript for his book. I read it and was astounded at almost everything I learned. 59 hormones. Scores of allergens. Toxins by the tons. Blood, pus, feces, up to 52 antibiotics and more. From all that I had learned about aspartame... that was the choice of substances to blame for creating my families FIRST case of cancer... an OLD MAN'S prostate cancer at that... and in someone so young. I learned enough to blame the IGF-1, that powerful growth hormone in every sip of milk and bite of dairy (that is identical between cow's and humans) as the primary reason that my surprise cancer flourished to the point it had already spread by the young age of 55. Realizing that Mr. Cohen is in the same boat as I... trying to inform the clueless public "out of pocket" while shoveling the "stuff" against the corporate, institutional and government tides... I offered to do a WEB site for him for bare expenses only. He accepted... and now there are several good resources covering cow's milk and dairy. For the past four plus years I have donated from 180-240 hours every month (yes... more involvement that a full time job)... along with several thousand dollars from my finite retirement income... in an attempt to level the corporate/consumer playing field on aspartame, MSG and cow's milk and dairy. Why? Well, one day I was feeling sorry for myself thinking that if only someone had made the info on aspartame public years ago I might not be in such a terrible predicament... suffering from terminal cancer with from 15-30 (or more) years lopped from my life span. An inner voice suggested that I be that "someone" for somebody else. "DORway to Discovery" was born. "DORway" stands for "David Oliver Rietz's -WAY-" of paying back the Internet for that small FDA list of 92 symptoms of aspartame poisoning that I credit with saving my life, where 21 of 21 clueless doctors failed over a period of eleven years. I am convinced that if aspartame, MSG and all milk/dairy were to cease to exist in the food supply that fully 80% of all medical problems would evaporate within five years. Perhaps as much as 50% within a couple of months. When I began www.DORway.com I was very apprehensive. Little "David", with almost no assets and little help, throwing huge stones at a highly litigious multi-national multi-billion dollar corporate giant with few scruples. One that CREATED lots of really nasty chemicals (DDT, PCB's, dioxins, agent orange, lots of formaldehyde, genetically mutated "stuff", etc.). Fortunate for my wife and I that they did not do as their surrogate in the movie "I love trouble" (Nick Nolte). In that movie the detractors of "LDS" (a movie name for rBGH) focused on Monsanto. They were "featured" because the Senator's aid said to Nolte (an investigative reporter trying to determine why so many scientists were ending up dead) "Oh, yes, LDS will be a much bigger seller than their billion-dollar aspartame". Since 22 September, 1996, when DORway opened it's Internet "doors", it has grown from 35 pages (spillover from my personal web site at http//www.awod.com/gallery/rwav/dorietz/) to almost 800 web pages (perhaps 12,000 printed pages). During the past four years Monsanto, their law and PR firms, and the FDA have all visited DORway thousands of times. This, while two anti-aspartame web sites grew to well over 100,000 (google.com 12/2001), and while Monsanto's 1996 "billion dollar seller with continued good growth projections" turned into dead cash cow now dumped on an investment firm (March, 2000). Those 100,000+ web sites represent the REAL reason... the prime force, behind this phenomenal success. Concerned and angry citizens getting involved in helping OTHER victims to learn the REAL truth. DORway is a "facilitator", a repository of just about any type of documentation a victim could want in an effort to tell others. The combined efforts of many thousands are helping to cure millions for free. The truth IS making the victims free... of unwarranted sickness and death. All without so much as ONE word from any of "them"! At the end of 1997 Monsanto's "billion dollar seller" missed matching that 1996 level by over 170 million dollars. By 1998 sales had fallen from 28 million pounds of the fluffy white poison (and increasing) to only 20 million pounds. Considering that Monsanto dumped their phenylalanine facilities in April of 1999 (the major amino acid in aspartame) and placed the Nutrasweet Co. on the auction block in July of 1999 (their billion- dollar seller was now only that when combined with TWO other companies up for sale)... we have come a LONG way in a short period of time. VERY cost effective activism (thanks to the Internet)! We have made great strides on almost zero personal budgets... especially when compared with tobacco and how long it took to get out the truth on THAT killer. Considering that tobacco is still making billions of dollars for everyone involved while around 3000 youths a day become new addicts, and that aspartame is almost DEAD without much by way of media, medical system, or government help... we are light years ahead of the anti-tobacco forces.
