New to Molecular Visualization?
The computer age most certainly has its advantages. Only a few years ago it took a very expensive mainframe computer to play around with three dimentional chemical molecules. Today, thanks to the efforts of companies such as CambridgeSoft Corporation (formerly Cambridge Scientific Computing) a person has direct access to information on chemicals via http://chemfinder.camsoft.com/ with a large number of the chemicals many of which have a direct link to a 3D representation in the form of a Protein Data Bank (.dpb) file. There is also a direct link to http://www.sci.ouc.bc.ca/chem/molecule/molecule.html where Dave Woodcock has over 500 chemicals in 3D .pdb file format. The WEB site at http://www.umass.edu/microbio/rasmol/ provides some good all-around information and links on this subject.
If you have the MDL Chemscape "CHIME" NetScape plug-in molecule viewer here is a list of many of the molecules that are a part of, or convert from the substance called aspartame. (Note: they will open on a separate page)
aspartame molecule CAS #22839-47-0 (Two Dimentional 22839-47-0 "GIF")
L-Aspartic acid molecule CAS #56-84-8 (Two Dimentional 56-84-8 "GIF")
methanol molecule CAS #67-56-1 (Two Dimentional 67-56-1 "GIF")
phenylalanine molecule CAS #63-91-2 (Two Dimentional 63-91-2 "GIF")
Formaldehyde molecule CAS #50-00-0 (Two Dimentional 50-00-0 "GIF")
Formic Acid molecule CAS #64-18-6 (Two Dimentional 64-18-6 "GIF")
