Every so often, life throws you a curve ball. Sometimes, it’ll pitch you half a dozen — all at the same time. Call it character building, perhaps, but that’s just where I found myself with the release of my last book for Avon. After 13 historical romance novels, I was contemplating, not simply a change in writing material, but in career and personal life, as well. So, I embarked on a personal journey — one that was supposed to be brief, but turned out to be a long and winding road. What turns did I make along the way to enlightenment? Grab a cup of joe and let’s chat for a sec…

On a sad note, my father developed prostrate cancer. That was a long stop along the road that put an indefinite hold on many a plan. But during Dad’s long illness, he and I took time to actually get to know one another — something I was disinclined to do as a slightly rebellious teen and a very busy young mom of two. I discovered so much about dad during his last years, and even more about myself: Most shockingly, I learned that, in many respects, the proverbial apple really didn’t fall far from the tree — and more, that I was even proud of that fact. After dad’s death, I decided to take over his Web sites (www.dorway.com and www.dorway.org). I also wrote a short magazine story about his passing and about my own daughter’s coming of age. I’m thrilled to say my reward for spilling my guts so eloquently was a bronze National Parenting Publications Award. Read Letting Go under Tanya Wins an Award.

But despite a few bumps and bruises in my love life (and maybe a train wreck here and there), I remain an eternal romantic and continue to write romances. I’m proud to say my last two novels were published by Harlequin — The Impostor’s Kiss, (December, 2003) and The Impostor Prince (September, 2006). You can order your copy of The Impostor Prince on Amazon.com. Many thanks to my readers for your endless patience and your wonderful letters.

As for future romances, I’ll be leaving the historical world behind (for the time being) and heading for the present. As much as I love the historical period (and still enjoy reading them), my pen is itching to scribble about modern-day intrigue and, yes, romance.
