I have read the Reuter's news release on this network on aspartame and brain cancer, and discussions on this network. Since Mission Possible is a volunteer force distributing a warning that aspartame (marketed as NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.) is a neurotoxin (absolute poison), we know all about the brain cancer. Being in Atlanta, Georgia I'm amused at the article that appeared in the Atlanta Journal Constitution with NutraSweet's defense: "And the Illinois based NutraSweet Kelco Co., which sells close to $1 billion of aspartame annually, said the researchers "manipulated the data to make their point", and of course Monsanto's siamese twin, the FDA agreed. Anyone who knows the history of NutraSweet can have a field day with this defense. First of all, in the secret trade information back in 70 it shows they knew aspartame was a poison and one of the breakdown products is DKP, a brain tumor agent. They discuss if they let the FDA know they will never get it approved. I have this document and wrote the following post on the paper titled THEY KNEW THE GUN WAS LOADED! Recently, in reviewing the Congressional Hearings (we have it on video tape) they discuss this document. And the story gets worse. In the Bressler Report when some of the rats died Searle, the original manufacturer of aspartame (Monsanto bought them in l985) resurrected them on paper. You want to talk about manipulation of data - resurrecting dead rats is exactly that. On January 10, l977 in a 33 page letter, FDA Chief Counsel Richard Merrill recommended to U.S. Attorney Sam Skinner that a grand jury investigate Searle for apparent violations of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act 21 USC 33, and the False Reports to the Government Act 18 USC 1001, for "their willful and knowing failure to make reports to the Food and Drug ADministration required by the by the Act 21 USC 355 and for concealing material facts and making false statements in reports of animal studies conducted to establish the safety of aspartame. Instead U.S. Attorney Sam Skinner went to work for Searle's law firm defending the case and let slip the hounds of disease and death on an unwarned and unprotected public. When the Bressler Report, compiled by FDA investigators and headed by Jerome Bressler, was released, the report found that 98 of the 196 animals died during one of Searle's studies and weren't autopsied until later dates, in some cases over one year after they died. Records for approximately 30 animals showed substantial differences between original observations on pathology sheets and the observations on pathology sheets submitted to the FDA. There were numerous other inconsistencies and errors noted. For example, a rat was reported alive, then dead, then alive, then dead again; a mass, a uterine polyp and ovarian neoplasms were found in animals but not reported or diagnosed in Searle's reports. The FDA investigators found dose-related uterine polyps in 15% of 34 animals. Rats developed rare brain tumors called astrocytomas. This is not new news. Dr. H. J. Roberts, world expert on aspartame, who has written books and publications on aspartame since it was approved has been concerned about this for years. His peer reviewed report on aspartame and brain cancer is on our auto- responder, Journal of Advancement in Medicine, Volume 4, Number 4, Winter 1991. DOES ASPARTAME CAUSE HUMAN BRAIN CANCER?? Dr. Roberts says on page 233: "An unexpectedly high incidence of primary brain tumors was found in rats experimentally exposed to aspartame during the l970s. Although FDA scientists and other expressed considerable concern, the statues of limitation on such studies were allowed to expire before regulatory action could be taken. The details were published in the Congressional Record - Senate hearings of May 7 (9) and August 1, l985, and in a recent text." "Park, a Staff Science Advisor for the Office of Health Affairs of the Department of Health and Human Services, concluded an analysis of aspartame safety by a special PBOI relative to brain tumors in aspartame-treated rats. He stated that aspartame had not been shown to be safe for the proposed food additive uses. The PBOI accordingly recommended that aspartame should not be approved until additional studies were performed using proper experimental designs." "These studies were never reported, to our knowledge, even though producers of aspartame continue to tout it as "the most thoroughly tested additive in history". If mutagenic, it could be due to the molecule itself, one or more of its three components (phenylalanine, aspartic acid, methyl alcohol), or their breakdown products. The latter include stereoisomers of the amino acids and/or multiple metabolites, especially the diketopiperazine derivative (DKP). It is noteworthy that these breakdown products increase during the prolonged storage and exposure to heat to which many aspartame products are exposed." "Gross, a senior FDA pathologist made a report to the US Senate hearing held on August 1, l985. He stated that the cancer causing potential of aspartame had been established beyond reasonable doubt from a number of indications. He expressed surprise that there was an apparent refusal by the FDA to invoke the Delaney Amendment to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act for this food additive." Dr. Roberts also discusses Dr. Olney: "Olney, Professor of Psychiatry and Neuropathology at Washington University School of Medicine, wrote to Senator Howard Metzenbaum. He reported that he had discovered a study by the manufacturer of aspartame that had been submitted to the FDA. The FDA apparently accepted it as evidence for the safety of aspartame. However, it had revealed the occurrence of 12 brain tumors in 320 aspartame treated rats."... The late Dr. Adrian Gross told Congress that beyond a shadow of a doubt the rats developed brain cancer. His last words will never be forgotten: "And if the FDA violates its own laws who is left to protect the public?" So brain tumors have been escalating, and of the type the rats had. In a lecture on aspartame a neurosurgeon told about taking out a brain tumor madeup of the breakdown products of aspartame. Here is Dr. Roberts summary: "The relationship between aspartame consumption and the development of primary brain cancers in humans require areful analysis by corporate-neutral investigators. In the event that such a correlation is shown and brain cancer incidence rats continue to rise, the FDA should declare aspartame products an "imminent public health hazard". Other findings would have related significance. They include (a) A disproportionate increase in incidence of glioblastoma, astrocytoma and primary brain lymphoma among young women who generally speaking are known to be consuming considerable amounts of aspartame. Brain tumors heretofore have occurred predominantly in middle agreed men. (b) An increase in the incidence rates of gliomas among children whose mothers consumed aspartame during pregnancy. Phenylalanine concentrates at least fourfold on the fetal side of the placenta. Many reasons already exist for such a declaration by the FDA. This agency has received an unprecedented number of volunteered complaints from at least 5000 consumers concerning severe reactions attributed to aspartame products - including 250 cases of convulsions. The author's registry of 630 aspartame reactors contains more than 100 individuals with grand mal and other seizures. The list of other central nervous system reactions to aspartame products is long, again indicating that serious brain dysfunction can be induced or aggravated by these products. In this context, I have urged that a formal diagnosis of multiple sclerosis be delayed in persons consuming aspartame products pending other observation for one or several months after abstinence." Keep in mind folks that Dr. Roberts wrote this in l991. The FDA (have to get it through Freedom of Information - they don't voluntarily want you to have it) lists 92 DOCUMENTED SYMPTOMS FROM COMA TO DEATH FROM ASPARTAME. So don't think this is new news about aspartame. Somebody should have given Dr. Roberts the Nobel Prize many years ago - he has been talking about these brain tumors for years as they have continued to escalate. The Saturday Evening Post wrote an article about escalating brain cancer last year. One OB doctor said in Chicago: "I keep telling pregnant women to get off aspartame, off these diet drinks, when pregnant, that aspartame causes birth defects. When they don't listen sometimes if the baby lives they end up with brain tumors and some of these little babies even have strokes." Dr. Louis Elsas, Professor of Pediatrics at Emory (Genetics) told Congress aspartame is a known neurotoxin and teratogen (causes birth defects). He explained how aspartame can concentrate in the placenta and cause mental retardation. (on our auto-responder). Dr. Roberts went further and said even a man consuming aspartame at the time of conception can cause birth defects. Read our report on Desert Storm on the responder. Dr. James Bowen who almost lost his life on aspartame told the FDA "Every known metabolite of aspartame is of marked or questionable toxicity and patently unsafe for human use. Methyl alcohol is metabolized to nascent formaldehyde in the eye, nervous system and other metabolically active organs." He went on to tell the FDA this is mass poisoning of the American public and over 70 countries of the world (now 90). Dr. Bowen further stated: "the only responsible action would be to immediately take aspartame off the market, fully disclose its toxicities, offer full compensation to the injured,, public and criminally prosecute anyone who participated in the fradulent placement of aspartame on the marketplace. That includes those who work so diligently to keep it on the market as well." In a nutshell aspartame destroys the optic nerve, the brain and the central nervous system. Dr. Clarice Gaylord of the EPA in her keynote address at the World Environmental Conference last November declared an epidemic of MS and lupus, and said she could not identify the toxin. I said: "Dr. Gaylord, I'm founder of Mission Possible and I'm here to lecture on MS and lupus and identify the toxin as NutraSweet." Dr. Roberts, a diabetic specialist, and Board Certified and Recertified Internist, has done research on Alzheimers for 30 years. He explains how aspartame has escalated this 20th century disease to the 4th leading cause of death in adults. One hospice nurse said 30 year old patients are being admitted with Alzheimers. One of the most common symptoms of aspartame is memory loss. The two amino acids when isolated from other amino acids go past the blood brain barrier and deteriorate the neurons of the brain causing brain damage of varying degrees. I regret I had to make this so long but people are talking about this new report on aspartame and brain tumors by Dr. Olney all over the world. A bill by Senator Metzenbaum that never got out of committee because of heavy lobbying (on our responder) would have warned off infants and pregnant women. They would not even allow the babies to be saved. Here you find out that aspartame is not an additive but a drug that interacts with other drugs, changes brain chemistry, causes behavior problems because of depleted serotonin, triggers seizures and changes the dopamine level of the brain. Its not even a diet product folks, the Congressional Record (quoting Dr. Wurtman of MIT) says it makes you crave carbohydrates. The tests were so bad that the Government began to prosecute them for fraud, but Searle got U.S. Atty Sam Skinner another job with their law firm, Sidley & Austin, defending the case. The statute of limitations ran out. In-cidently, Sammy became 1993 Epileptic Foundation man of the year! A memorandum from Herbert Helling titled CONFIDENTIAL TRADE SECRET INFORMATION, Food and Drug Sweetener Strategy, 12/28/70, said: "The basic philosophy of our approach to Food and Drug should be .. to rank the things we are going to ask for so that we are putting first those questions we are likely to get "yes" to, even if we have to throw some in that have no significance to us other than putting them into a yes saying habit. We must create an affirmative atmosphere in our dealing with them. It would also help if we can get them to get the people involved to do us any sort of favor as this would also help bring them into a subconscious spirit of participation." TRANSLATION: Safe products get approved but since the product is unsafe our strategy will be psychomanipulation! In their concluding paragraph: .."we have no way of estimating maximum likely abuse and hence need to utilize data based on almost complete conversion to DKP. If we include this .. we stand a good chance of ending up with nothing.." They knew DKP (diketopiperazine), a tumor agent, is a breakdown product -and they knew what would happen to the public, and concealed it! Aspartame changes brain chemistry, lowers the seizure threshold of the brain and the phenylalanine concentrates in the placenta causing mental retardation. It changes the brain dopamine, deadly to a Parkinsons patient. Phenylalanine depletes serotonin so causes behavioral problems, panic attacks, manic depression, etc. The methanol converts first to formaldehyde and then formic acid causing metabolic acidosis. It has a disastrous effect on the fetus causing birth defects, if there is survival at all. Searle knew about the breakdown products. Seizures are rampant, more people are going blind, having horrible neurological problems and experience manic depression plus other behavioral changes, and they had the evidence. On 8/1/85 Ohio's courageous Senator Howard Metzenbaum sponsored bill S1557 which provided for a moratorium on new aspartame products, and label warnings on those in distribution. It also required studies by independent laboratories, listing these problems: Effect of aspartame on brain chemistry Effects on pregnant women and fetuses Behavioral and neurological effects Interaction with drugs, (particularly changes dopamine level) Increased probability of seizures The Senate killed the bill, and so let slip the hounds of disease and death on an innocent unwarned population. ORIGINAL TESTS A HORROR STORY One test on seven infant monkeys was prophetic of the devastation aspartame is now wrecking on humans: One died after 300 days and 5 others had Grand Mal seizures. You're the monkey now! The August '95 FDA report of 10,000 aspartame complaints of 92 symptoms from coma to death includes 4 types of seizures, petit to grand mal, yet an FDA brochure denies that aspartame causes seizures. Monsanto who bought Searle in 1985 funds twin associations, the initials ADA. The American Diabetics Assn., and the American Dietetic Assn. who acknowledges their literature is written by NutraSweet! The only thing missing is Monsanto/ NutraSweet's name on their stationery. Aspartame disease has predictable symptoms. Two weeks ago William Reed, (diabetic) who lives in Michigan, was having 5 or 6 seizures every day, couldn't sleep, had slurred speech, memory loss, rapid heart beats and resigned himself to die. His doctor didn't have a clue, discounted AsparPoison reports as "anecdotal". When warned Reed discontinued AsparPoison and the seizures quit, and he sleeps through the night. His other symptoms are disappearing too. Reed's family includes 15 diabetics on NutraSweet with similar symptoms!
