Date: Thu, 14 Nov 1996 04:09:56 -0500 (EST) From: Betty Martini Subject: Rebuttal to Mr. Nelson of NutraSweet Co. Part 1 of 4 parts: Really, Mr. Nelson, your post is a classic example of the misinformation put out by NutraSweet/Monsanto on aspartame. There is the story that says if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck, and hangs out with other ducks, its probably a duck! You start out by saying those who claim an association between aspartame and brain tumors. During the congressional hearings on aspartame the secret trade information was discussed. We have it on tape. And we have the memo titled CONFIDENTIAL TRADE SECRET INFORMATION, Food and Drug Sweetener Strategy 12/28/70. In the concluding paragraph it says: "We have no way of estimating maximum likely abuse and hence need to utilize data based on almost complete conversion to DKP. If we include this ... we stand a good chance of ending up with nothing." Mr. Nelson DKP (diketopiperzine) is a brain tumor agent!!!! We realize the original manufacturer was Searle and you bought them in l985. And vital information was concealed. With a breakdown product that can trigger brain tumors what do you suppose the animals would get? If you're thinking brain tumors you're correct. Quoting Dr. H. J. Roberts' peer reviewed report on aspartame and brain cancer, Journal of Advancement in Medicine, Volume 4, Number 4, Winter 1991 he says: "An unexpectedly high incidence of primary brain tumors was found in rats experimentally exposed to aspartame during the l970s. Although FDA scientists and other expressed considerable concern, the statues of limitation on such studies were allowed to expire before regulatory action could be taken. The details were published in the Congressional Record - Senate Hearings of May 7 (9) and August 1, 1985. "Park, a Staff Science Advisor for the Office of Health Affairs of the Department of Health and Human Services, concluded an analysis of aspartame safety by a special PBOI relative to brain tumors in aspartame-treated rats. He stated that aspartame had not been shown to be safe for the proposed food additive uses. The PBOI accordingly recommended that aspartame should not be approved until additional studies were performed using proper experimental designs. "These studies were never reported, to our knowledge, even though producers of aspartame continue to tout it as "the most thoroughly tested additive in history". If mutagenic, it could be due to the molecule itself, one or more of its three components (phenylalanine, aspartic acid, methyl alcohol), or their breakdown products. The latter include stereoisomers of the amino acids and/or multiple metabolites, especially the diketopiperazine derivative (DKP). It is noteworthy that these breakdown products increase during the prolonged storage and exposure to heat to which many aspartame products are exposed. "Gross, a senior FDA pathologist made a report to the US Senate hearing held on 8/1/85. He stated that the cancer causing potential of aspartame had been established beyond reasonable doubt from a number of indications. He expressed surprise that there was an apparent refusal by the FDA to invoke the Delaney Amendment to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act for this food additive." Mr. Nelson, lets stop a minute and consider some of the points already brought out. "We have no way of estimating maximum likely abuse".. Consider this was written in 1970 even before it was approved or in 100 products - and now its over 9000 and climbing and in over 90 countries of the world. Simple logic - YOU CAN GET TOO MUCH OF IT!!!! In June the FDA showing extreme loyalty to your company opened the floodgates of this poison with blanket approval. Secondly, aspartame is a drug and not an additive, and interacts with other drugs. So what is the safe allowable dose? There is no safe dose for poison. Is that why Dr. Roberts explains the allowable daily dose was set for "rats"!!!!! Now lets take the late Dr. Adrian Gross' comments direct from the Congressional Record: "In view of all these indications that the cancer causing potential of aspartame is a matter that has been established way beyond any reasonable doubt, one can ask: What is the reason for the apparent refusal by the FDA to invoke for this food additive the Delaney Amendment to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act? Is it not clear beyond any shadow of a doubt that aspartame had caused brain tumors or brain cancer in animals and is this not sufficient to satisfy the provisions of that particular section of the law? 1985 pg 1835-40" Further - "...how would the FDA justify its position that it views a certain amount of aspartame (50 mg/kg body-weight) as constituting an ADI (Allowable Daily Intake) or "safe" level of setting a "tolerance" for this food additive and thus a violation of that law? AND IF THE FDA ITSELF ELECTS TO VIOLATE THE LAW WHO IS LEFT TO PROTECT THE HEALTH OF THE PUBLIC?" Okay, Mr. Nelson, what have we here? BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT - strong words ---cancer causing potential of aspartame has been established. Someone might ask how much is a safe level. Frankly, I can't imagine a safe amount. But let the U. S. Air Force speak about that - from FLYING SAFETY, official journal of the Air Force - dated May, 1992 "In pregnancy the effects of aspartame can be passed directory on to the fetus, even in very small doses. Some people have suffered aspartame related disorders with doses as small as that carried in a single stick of chewing gum. This could mean a pilot who drinks diet sodas is more susceptible to flicker vertigo or to flicker-induced epileptic activity. It also means that all pilots are potential victims of sudden memory loss, dizziness during instrument flight and gradual loss of vision." So we have a cancer causing drug poisoning the marketplace that violated the Delaney Amendment. The Delaney Amendment forbids manufacturers from poisoning the people. Now H.R. 3200 if passed will repeal the Delaney Act. Interesting! Instead of protecting the people, it seems more important to get rid of the laws that protect us Stay tuned for part II, all about the rats that got resurrected and the testing of NutraSweet.
Part 2: The testing of aspartame is a comedy and according to the late FDA toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, tested by comedians. Dr. Gross in a letter to Senator Metzenbaum explained the fraudulent studies that were the basis for an indictment,( that was not carried out when the U.S. Attorney Sam Skinner, instead went to work for the law firm defending the case) actually ended up approving NutraSweet. "It seems bizarre ... Although FDA may have gone through the motions, such a "process" or dance represented no more than a farce and a mockery . ... The views of the FDA's Center for Food Safety read like a script written for Abbott & Costello in the sense of their having preceptions inside-out and upside-down ....329 fetuses were examined in 2 days by a single person is clear impossibility." Dr. Gross listed: Substitutions of animals (hiding deaths) Using sick animals on drugs (unreported) Incomplete examination Unreported tumors Missing batch records Mixing food so rats in the test could avoid the product Destroying rats before they could be fully analyzed. In l984 the CDC investigated complaints of human sickness and death from NutraSweet, and reported: aggressive behavior disorientation hyperactivity extreme numbness excitability memory loss loss of depth perception liver impairment cardiac arrest seizures suicidal tendencies severe mood swings death CDC's Frederick Trowbridge added a summary to the report which conflicts with the data in the report. He spoke about the "mild nature" of complaints. Are cardiac arrest, liver impairment, seizures and death "mild"? I have the study and its one of the most damning reports on NutraSweet. CDC does not want you to have it. When I asked only the summary was sent. I demanded the study so they made me file under Freedom of Information. The story of Dr. Olney's report in the Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology linking aspartame to brain tumors has made news around the world. We're being sent the notices from different newspapers and different countries. In the Atlanta Journal Constitution it says: "And the Illinois-based NutraSweet Kelco Co., which sells close to $1 billion of aspartame annually, said the researchers "manipulated the data to make their point." Let's talk about manipulation of data! When the Bressler Report, compiled by FDA investigators and headed by Jerome Bressler, was released, the report found that 98 of the l96 animals died during one of Searle's studies and weren't autopsied until later dates, in some cases over one year after they died. Records for approximately 30 animals showed substantial differences between original observations on pathology sheets and the observations on pathology sheets submitted to the FDA. There were numerous other inconsistencies and errors noted. For example, a rat was reported alive, then dead, then alive, then dead again; a mass, uterine polyp and ovarian neoplasms were found in animals but not reported or diagnosed in Searle's report. The FDA investigators found dose-related uterine polyps in 15% of 34 animals. A letter from Dr. Lawrence Lin of the Department of Health & Human Services (FDA) dated March 23, l989 to Barbara Mullarkey states: "Since all these studies were submitted by the NutraSweet Company, we believe that the majority, if not all, of them were Searle funded. We have no requirements as to knowing who their financial sponsors are." ...Moreover, the majority of these studies were not published in scientific journals at the time we received them."... So the studies that approved NutraSweet were funded by the manufacturer! NutraSweet funded a study for Dr. Diana Dow Edwards on birth defects. When the results were disastrous NutraSweet withdrew their funding. Dr. Dow-Edwards had to pay the rest herself. Neither NutraSweet or the FDA would then accept the results. Let's see now, this says to me: "If you won't say the drug is safe we won't pay for it or accept it!" Dr. Ralph Walton decided to do a study and NutraSweet refused to sell him the aspartame. They had to purchase analytically certified USP grade aspartame from a distributor. They did the study but the institutional Review Board had to terminate the project prematurally. The frequency and severity of psychiatric, neurologic, eye and other side effects in the depression group is what stopped it. So, if studies show the product is not safe they are ignored. And they refuse to sell the aspartame to anyone wanting to do independent studies - because they know what is going to happen???? Mr. Nelson you say in your post: "..more than 200 clinical studies confirm the safety of aspartame -- you can continue to confidently enjoy products sweetened with NutraSweet." Tell me, how many of those studies you refer to were funded by the NutraSweet Company, the same one who refused to sell aspartame for independent studies - the same one that refused to accept the results when they showed aspartame to be a dangerous product. Even the National Soft Drink Association wrote a 30 page protest and mentioned that aspartame should not be approved because of the issue of the brain tumors. Then they turned around and lobbied for NutraSweet! Stuart Pape who was once the director of the National Soft Drink Association is now director of the National Yogurt Association. He has petitioned the FDA to allow aspartame in yogurt without labeling!! There is a warning on all aspartame products that if a consumer has PKU (can't metabolize phenylalanine) he won't use it. If that petition is granted than anyone could get aspartame in yogurt without knowing, pregnant women, diabetics, Parkinson's (changes the dopamine level of the brain), pilots who have to have good vision (destroys the optic nerve), infants, etc., etc. Manufacturer sponsored studies are worthless because of the history of abuse. So when you tell the public that more than 200 clinical studies confirm the safety of aspartame you are misleading them. And you know it!!!!!!! Dr. John Olney in his report is referring to the work of H. J. Roberts, M.D. and bringing up-to-date the data and statistics. Dr. Roberts wrote Dr. Kessler in l990 about these brain tumors. They are discussed by Dr. Roberts in Clinical Research 1990; 38:798 A Dr. Roberts peer reviewed report was in Journal of Advancement in Medicine, Volume 4, Number 4, Winter 1991 - DOES ASPARTAME CAUSE HUMAN BRAIN CANCER? And in Dr. Roberts letter to Newt Gingrich he again warned. Repeatedly he has said - aspartame triggers brain cancer!!! And the rare type of brain tumor the rats developed are now increasing in the population. The American public and over 90 countries of the world are being fed this poison, just like the rats! Aspartame ravages every organ in the body. William Randolph who was in this newsgroup used aspartame for years and suffered agonizing pains in his legs. I asked him to get off NutraSweet which he did, and the pains in his legs disappeared. He was on the mend when he had a heart attack and died. He just wasn't warned in time. In his memory I've asked Dr. Roberts to write a position paper on how aspartame effects the heart. He has done so.
Part 3 - psychomanipulation: Complaint file on aspartame. Secret trade information was discussed during the Congressional Hearings. The title of the Memo was Food and Drug Sweetener Strategy. It said: "The basic philosophy of our approach to Food and Drugs should be .. to rank the things we are going to ask for so that we are putting first those questions we are likely to get "yes" to, even if we have to throw some in that have no significance to us other than putting them into a yes saying habit. We must create an affirmative atmosphere in our dealing with them. It would also help if we can get them to get the people involved to do us any sort of favor as this would also help bring them into a subconscious spirit of participation." Translation: Safe products get approved but since the product is unsafe our strategy will be psychomanipulation. In the concluding paragraph they said "we have no way of estimating maximum likely abuse and hence need to utilize data based on almost complete conversion to DKP. If we include this .. we stand a good chance of ending up with nothing." Premeditation: They knew it would trigger brain tumors since diketopiperazine is a brain tumor agent and concealed it. But notice the words "likely abuse". Congress was very concerned about the amount of aspartame used. Now in June they approved aspartame as a general sweetener in all foods. Nothing has changed but no longer does the FDA care about how much is consumed. And as far as how much of it is needed to create problems lets look to the U.S. Air Force who in their journal (Flying Safety) said: "Some people have suffered aspartame related disorders with doses as small as that carried in a single stick of chewing gum." Dr. H. J. Roberts often warns about sugarfree gum because its like putting nitroglycerin under your tongue, small molecules, goes straight to the brain. Now, lets talk about misinformation. "You say, first and foremost, it is physiologically impossible for aspartame to be a carcinogen. Aspartame is metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract to small amounts of common dietary components including the amino acids, aspartic acid and phenylalanine. We consume these same components in much greater amounts in common foods, such as milk, meat, fruits and vegetables. The body handles these amino acids in the same way it handles them when found in other food sources." No wonder your email bounces back. You don't want any rebuttal. What you are saying is simply not true and you know it. If you say the body handles these amino acids in the same way it handles them when found in other food sources - THEN WHY IS THERE A WARNING ON ASPARTAME FOR PKU? When people find out there is methanol in aspartame you people and the FDA say "there is more methanol in oranges", etc. Its what you don't say that misleads them. You know that in fruit there is also ethanol which is the antidote for methanol toxicity. Here it is from a journal: ASPARTAME: METHANOL AND THE PUBLIC HEALTH by Dr. Woodrow Monte, Journal of Nutrition, Volume 36, #1, l984: "Ethanol, the classic antidote for methanol toxicity, is found in natural food sources of methanol at concentrations 5 to 500,000 times that of the toxin. Ethanol inhibits metabolism of methanol and allows the body time for clearance of the toxin through the lungs and kidneys." There is no ethanol in aspartame! Neither do people get methanol toxicity and slurred speech from an orange. But they sure do with aspartame. Methanol is a cumulative poison - we call it "death of 1000 six packs". You say it is physiologically impossible for aspartame to be a carcinogen! Then why did the rats get brain tumors, and why were there other cancers in lab animals? The Delaney Amendment makes it illegal to allow any residues of cancer causing chemicals in foods. The late FDA toxicologist Dr. Adrian Gross said: "at least one of those studies has established beyond any reasonable doubt that aspartame is capable of inducing brain tumors, in experimental animals and that this is of extremely high significance. Gross also testified that because aspartame was capable of producing brain tumors and brain cancer, FDA should not have been able to set an allowable daily intake of the substance any level. Aspartame also triggered mammary tumors. Dr H. J. Roberts peer reviewed report on aspartame and brain cancer is some of the information cited by Dr. Olney. And we know about the misinformation on your web page. It says: "Formaldehyde has been implicated as a possible carcinogen when inhaled, but this hasn't been shown to be the case when its taken by mouth." Its hard to believe anyone would write such a thing. The Merck Manual says under formaldehyde: "This substance has been listed as a carcinogen by the EPA." If you (Monsanto/NutraSweet) who bought Searle in l985 want to make the study, I'll start the ball rolling by donating a 55 gallon drum of formaldehyde. Since the executives at Monsanto are unconvinced as to the toxicity of embalming fluid as a drink, lets test it on them! You say: "We consume these same components in much greater amounts in common foods, such as milk, meat, fruits and vegetables. The body handles these amino acids in the same way it handles them when found in other food sources.".. DR. H. J. Roberts in his book says: "ASPARTAME (NUTRASWEET) IS IT SAFE?, says: " Promotional material for aspartame implies that the body treats aspartame's two amino acids no differently than if they were derived from fruit, vegetables, milk or meat... ..There are profound differences in both the rates of digestion and the degree of absorption depending on whether these amino acids are provided by food or by aspartame. The usual forms of protein (such as meat) contain 4 or 5% phenylalanine -- not 50%, as does aspartame. Moreover, they are slowly digested within the gastrointestinal tract, and in tandem with other neutral amino acids. This precludes an unbalanced flooding of the system with single amino acids. The situation is quite different with aspartame, where the body is suddenly deluged with large amounts of two amino acids." Dr. Roberts says further: "The serious consequences of excessive phenylalanine and aspartic acid suddenly flooding the blood stream and brain are explained in the next chapter." And you try to get people to believe it doesn't answer the bloodstream! You end saying "we believe the authors and publishers of this paper provide a disservice to the public by causing unwarranted alarm and leading people to further mistrust science." What a mouthful! Dr. James Bowen who was an aspartame victim himself said about Nutrasweet to the FDA: "In my opinion this has resulted in the mass poisoning of the American public as well as 70+ countries of the world (now 90). You want to talk about a disservice, how about the sick and dying of aspartame. Mothers call weeping about their children having seizures. Many women were not able to conceive because of the infertility caused by aspartame. Dr. Bowen worked in a fertility clinic and when he got half of the women off aspartame they got pregnant. How about people like Joyce Wilson who went blind and died from NutraSweet. Dr. Bowen said further: "Every known metabolite of aspartame is of marked or questionable toxicity and patently unsafe for human use. Methyl alcohol is metabolized to nascent formaldehyde in the eye, nervous system and other metabolically active organs." and Dr. Bowen said: "Also visual disturbances, heart palpitations, infertility and fetal loss may be traced to aspartame ingestion. Yes, indeed, my brother was addicted to Diet Coke, and suffered heart palpitations. After a heart attack he finally gave it up and found out that the palpitations and other problems disappeared. Dr. Roberts said people are having needless surgery when, in fact, until aspartame is eliminated it won't go away. William Randolph who was in this newsgroup got off aspartame and the agonizing pains in his legs disappeared. He had had by-pass surgery, and many problems. He was a heavy aspartame consumer. But he wasn't warned in time. He had a myocardial infarction and died. I asked Dr. Roberts would he write a position paper on what aspartame does to the heart in his memory. He has already sent it. In a note from Robert Cohen he made this comment: "According to the US Department of Agriculture, Americans consume 2 lbs per day per person of milk and dairy. These dairy products buffer the gastric environment and allow milk proteins and other chemical food additives to survive digestive processes. When eating something sweet like candy or cake treated with NutraSweet, people tend to wash it all down with milk."
Part 4, conclusion, and we'll discuss "disservice" - It has become public knowledge that the FDA has great loyalty to Monsanto. In fact, you may remember when the GAO did an investigation titled: "The incestuous relationship of the FDA and Monsanto." This having to do with the bovine growth hormone. And sure enough when Robert Cohen requested data on BGH under Freedom of Information, the FDA refused to release the information. And, Robert Cohen filed suit against the FDA. When Dr. Olney's report on aspartame and brain cancer made headlines around the world, the FDA sided with Monsanto (NutraSweet) rather than being concerned for the public. It is no wonder that Alex Constantine in his article NutraPoison refers to the FDA as Monsanto's siamese twin. Now let's get to the complaints on NutraSweet. Do the FDA's actions show loyalty to the industry or the people? Dave Rietz is someone we got off NutraSweet who lived a life of serious medical problems for the past 10 years. And even though many of the medical problems disappeared when he abstained, he now has cancer. He set up a web page. He got a note from NatraTaste Division. It states: "Recently, the FDA granted approval for aspartame's use in all food categories. As a condition for approval, the FDA required the manufacturer of aspartame, the NutraSweet Co., to monitor the consumption of aspartame. Since that time, health complaints allegedly associated with the consumption of aspartame were investigated by the FDA and Center for Disease Control. These health organizations concluded there is no association between the consumption of aspartame and any adverse effects. This finding in line with the results of animal studies and clinical trials sponsored by aspartame's manufacturer." We've already gone through CDC (Department of Health & Human Resources - FDA). Their original investigation is one of the most damning ever written on NutraSweet and then they added a summary saying they were of a mild nature. We tell people to get the report and look at it. Why would they do such a thing, Mr. Nelson? Now we come to complaints listed with the FDA. (FDA lists 92 documented symptoms from coma to death) During Congressional Hearings (and we have the tapes) there was a discussion of why the FDA would tell people calling in to complain on NutraSweet to call the AIDS Hotline. Its also in books. When I interviewed Richard Wilson who lost his wife, Joyce to NutraSweet, he said the FDA had 10,000 complaints during the early 80's. Yet the l995 report from the FDA showed 10,000 complaints. Also, Joyce herself who had a hotline on complaints on NutraSweet had way in excess of 10,000 complaints. And this doesn't even take into account other organizations warning people off aspartame like ASPARTAME VICTIMS AND THEIR FRIENDS OF OCALA, FLORIDA. Shannon Roth headed this and went blind in one eye. This is not in existence anymore and some allege she settled. Dr. Kessler said in JAMA only 1% of serious problems are ever reported to the FDA, and further many never associated their problems with NutraSweet. Neither did physicians because the American Dietetic Association and the American Diabetic Association are funded by NutraSweet and they tell physicians its safe. Jesse Parker-Hobson on 8/26/96 wrote Dr. Derelian, President of the American Dietetic Assoc. and said: "Dr. Derelian, your sellout to commercial profiteers shames the ADA and it's members. The stench of hypocrisy is so unendurable I must resign my 21 year Registered Dietitian status as an act of conscience. I'll be no part of an organization that pimps poison in the name of nutrition." She quotes Dr. Louis Elsas (pediatric genetics, Emory) when he told Congress: "aspartame is in fact a well known neurotoxin and teratogen (writers note - causes birth defects) which in some as yet undefined dose will ... irreversibly in the developing child or fetal brain produce adverse effects." The dietitians admits NutraSweet write their material as do other trade organizations. Jessie Parker Hobson continues: "Your sheet, Facts About Aspartame advises: "People of all ages including pregnant or breastfeeding women, teens and children over 2 years old, can enjoy products sweetened with aspartame." "Enjoy spontaneous abortions, deformed and mentally retarded babies? Unbelievably you've prostituted our mission as The New York Times said." (New York Times, Nov 15, 1995 - CORPORATE SUPPORT TO DIETITIANS GROUP IS CALLED UNHEALTHY) Shall we go into the American Diabetic Assoc? Endocrinologist, Dr. H. J. Roberts, a member for over 35 years, wrote an abstract on diabetic aspartame reactors. What a dilemma for the ADA! Possibly could they have thought if they published the report and warned the diabetics the greenbacks would stop? And Dr. Roberts wrote them many times. But the decision not to publish the warning shows the loyalty to Monsanto (NutraSweet). It was then published in Clinical Research (Vol. 36, No. 3, l988 489A) It listed problems encountered with diabetics - Precipitation of clinical diabetes Poorer diabetic control More frequent hypoglycemia reactions The simulation or aggravation of diabetic complications, especially retinopathy, cataracts, neuropathy and gastro- paresis Aspartame associated convulsions I can tell you after attending the Conference of the American College of Physicians with Dr. Roberts physicians were stunned when they found out the truth about aspartame. Now the FDA Complaint file! Again we see loyalty to Monsanto. Dr. James Bowen in a statement to the FDA said: "..I have found little evidence of honesty, integrity or stability on the part of the Food & Drug Administration officials regarding the aspartame issue, since its approval in 1981. This attitude is largely shared by the general public. I come in contact with approximately two new people each week who are now being or who have in the past been poisoned by aspartame. All of them share the same reactions that it is not worth writing to the FDA or NutraSweet, because you and your agency have run amuck and are no longer a valid public benefactor." Mission Possible has been collecting complaints on aspartame from the net.(prior to that by mail) This has nothing to do with complaint cards we give the victims so it will be on the record. They mail them directly to the FDA. And there are many Mission Possible activists collecting case histories as well. Over one thousand have been given FDA. And we have printed about 1000 of the complaint cards, and constantly we are out of them. And complaints come by phone. All you have to do is go to a mall and give out warning flyers. Six out of ten people using aspartame already have the symptoms or some disease. The Wall Street Journal, Friday, November 8, l996 quotes the FDA showing their loyalty to Monsanto. "Agency said complaints regarding aspartame fell to 11 last year, from more than 1,000 in the mid l980's" Since aspartame was approved in everything in the grocery store in June obviously the FDA had to show a decline in complaints. Here's what they did: 1. Did not record any complaints submitted by Mission Possible. 2. Did not count any of the complaint cards submitted by the victims. 3. Told many, many callers that they were not taking complaints anymore. (Now thats blatant loyalty) But the FDA had to figure out how to show a decrease. I bet they stayed awake all night on this one. They actually made a statement in their report that they changed their bookkeeping system and, therefore, had to eliminate hundreds of complaints from the l980's. We will duplicate our complaint file and send it Certified Mail to the FDA. Dr. Bowen also told the FDA: "Given the well established modus operandi of the manufacturer, there is no concern given the ultimate consumer. And cover-ups seem to be part of the routine of doing business" But the NutraSweet Company gets to say: "Its safety has been affirmed by leading health organizations such as the American Dietetic Association and the American Diabetic Association." With the NutraSweet Company writing the material it would, of course, say its safe. You get to write your own endorsements!!! In the case of the dietitians I don't understand why they don't put your address on their stationery, There was discussion of the Daily Allowable Dose in the Congressional Hearings. At that time aspartame was probably in over 100 products, but they were concerned about how much would be consumed. In the secret trade information they discussed "abuse". But now that its in over 9000 products nobody cares. Richard Wilson after his wife died from aspartame said he would buy a good bit of it, and sell it to kill fire ants. It does a great job. It also kills rats, as you know, from the original studies. Sincerely, Betty Martini Mission Possible International 9270 River Club Parkway Duluth, Georgia 30097 Email: bettym19@mindspring.com
